Ep. 99 Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals: 5 Easy Ways to Reduce Your Family Exposure

A recent study found that chemicals, called parabens, in everyday hair and personal care products cause breast cancer cells from Black women to “grow, invade, spread, and express genes linked to cancer…” Parabens serve as preservatives and only a small number of brands offer paraben-free products. This is just one example of many endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) present all around us that mimic, block, or interfere with hormones in the body.  EDCs are also linked to early puberty, obesity, other cancers, infertility, heart disease, learning disability, etc.

Internationally renowned, environmental pediatrician, Dr. Leo Trasande joins me to discuss EDCs and offer ways to reduce your family exposure.

This episode covers:

-What EDCs are

-The words to look out for on product labels

-5 easy changes you can make today

-Safer alternatives

Thanks, Leonardo Trasande, MD, MPP!
