As a pediatrician, I have lots of conversations with parents and kids about feeding challenges. Parents usually worry about the child not eating enough or the child only eating a few types of foods (pickiness). In every conversation, what the child is or isn’t doing is the focus.

But pediatric feeding specialist, Dawn Winkelmann explains that the caregiver should be calm, get creative and make eating fun in order to promote healthy eating in their kids and overcome most food fights. Aha, parents have a part to play in feeding difficulties as well! Dawn has so many family-eating, game-changing strategies in this episode that I’ve taken notes to share with my patients.

This episode covers:

-How to set an early foundation for healthy eating

-How to avoid common pitfalls when feeding children

-Common Feeding problems in kids and how to manage them

-How can sippy cups contribute to picky eating patterns

-Why overstuffing  is such a feeding concern

-The difference between gagging and choking and what parents should/should not do

Thanks, Dawn Winkelmann!
