I am hopeful for the future when I meet young people who advocate for themselves and others. Just this morning, my eyes welled with tears watching the students in Parkland, Florida passionately speak against gun violence and for school safety. And several months ago, I had the same feeling when I interviewed the students of SWAT.

Students Working Against Tobacco is a peer education group striving for a tobacco free future. They are trying to demolish the stat that most smokers start by age 18.  They educate their peers and others in the community about tobacco prevention and challenge our government officials to pass laws to protect youth against Big Tobacco tactics. They are doing great work and exposing themselves to a bright future!

Our discussion covered:

-Definition of tobacco

-Chemicals in tobacco

-Different forms of tobacco

-Harmful effects of tobacco

-Tobacco industry tactics to target youth and create future smokers

-Tobacco free advocacy

Thank You, SWAT and Ms. Dahlia Scafe!
