In today’s social and political climate, legitimate words like diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) have been misrepresented putting the overall health of children in jeopardy. As a physician, these words have significant meaning, value, and goals in an effort to prevent disease and/or death, improve health outcomes, and afford EVERYONE the opportunity to be healthy. Let me be clear. We have not fully achieved DEI. However, parents and caregivers of children can play a role in protecting children’s health by understanding the importance of DEI and advocating for continued efforts throughout society.
Board certified pediatrician and Chair of Diversity and Inclusion at the Mayo Clinic Health System, Dr. Nusheen Ameenuddin sets the record straight on what DEI truly is and why it matters in children’s health.
We cover:
-What is Diversity, equity, and inclusion?
-Why is DEI important to overall health and well being?
-Why we think there is controversy and politicization?
-How to advocate for DEI in your home, community, and throughout society?
Thank you, Dr. Nusheen Ameenuddin!
